Indeed, specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) are Omega-3 derived lipids that are naturally present in our body. They are necessary to activate biological defense mechanisms (as inflammation resolution) and hold strong therapeutic potentials in the management of COVID-19.
In this recent publication, Balta et al. address the molecular events that link the lipid mediators with COVID-19 severity and discuss the clinical potentials of SPMs in COVID-19 immunotherapeutics.
